NFL playoffs continue with wild-card action Sunday as the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers begin defense of their title with a rematch of their Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The No. 2 seed Buccaneers host the No. 7 seed Eagles in what, on paper at least, appears to be a mismatch, though Tampa Bay only won the earlier contest in Philadelphia, 28-22.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will duke it out with the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs Sunday at Raymond James Stadium at 1 p.m. ET. Tampa Bay should still be riding high after a big win, while Philadelphia will be looking to get back in the win column.
The Buccaneers’ matchup against the Carolina Panthers last week was close at halftime, but Tampa Bay turned on the heat in the second half with 31 points. Tampa Bay blew past Carolina 41-17. It was another big night for Tampa Bay’s QB Tom Brady, who passed for three TDs and 326 yards on 37 attempts.
Who’s PlayingPhiladelphia @ Tampa Bay
Regular Season Records: Philadelphia 9-8; Tampa Bay 13-4
Meanwhile, the Eagles scored first but ultimately less than the Dallas Cowboys in their game last week. Philadelphia ended up on the wrong side of a painful 51-26 walloping at Dallas’ hands. A silver lining for Philadelphia was the play of RB Kenneth Gainwell, who punched in one rushing touchdown. Gainwell had some trouble finding his footing against the Washington Football Team two weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction.
Tampa Bay is the favorite in this one, with an expected 7.5-point margin of victory. Those playing the odds have seen things go back and forth with the Buccaneers, who are 7-8 against the spread.
A pair of offensive stats to keep an eye on: Tampa Bay enters the contest with 43 passing touchdowns, which is the best in the league. Philadelphia has displayed some offensive firepower of their own as they come into the matchup boasting the most rushing touchdowns in the NFL at 25.
