Tampa won the AL East and earned the No. 1 see in the so-called Junior Circuit. The Red Sox punched their ticket to the ALDS with a win over the rival Yankees in the Wild Card Game.
Teams: Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays
Time: 5:07 p.m. Pacific on FS1
Pitching: Bos: Eduardo Rodriguez (13-8, 4.74 ERA)
TB: Shane McClanahan (10-6, 3.43 ERA)
The Astros, the West champions and the No. 2 seed in the AL, have played in four consecutive Championship Series. The White Sox, for their part, just won their first AL Central crown since 2008.
On paper, the Astros would appear to be the favorites. They finished the regular season with a significantly better run differential despite playing a tougher schedule. Anything can happen over the course of a five-game series, however, so it wouldn’t be smart to write off the possibility that the White Sox advance past the divisional round for the first time since 2005 — Chicago, of course, won the World Series that fall.
As for the Red Sox, they announced their Game 1 starter as Eduardo Rodriguez. Chris Sale is not available after starting Sunday and Nathan Eovaldi is not available after starting the Wild Card Game on Tuesday. Rodriguez finished the year with a 4.74 (100 ERA+) in 157 2/3 innings.
